Another Reason To "Sleep When Baby Sleeps"
A recent study in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that well-rested moms are more likely to shed their pregnancy pounds. Moms who slept 5 hours or less a day when their babies were 6 months old were 2.3 times more likely than more rested moms to have kept on at least 5 kg (11 pounds) of extra weight at 1 year postpartum. In addition, moms whose sleep decreased over the next 6 months retained an even larger amount of weight. Those who slept 7 or more hours a day at 6 months postpartum had more than twice the weight-loss of their sleep-deprived sisters, and continued to lose more for the next 6 months. Intermountain Medical Center Opens
On October 29th, 2007 Intermountain Healthcare opened a new hospital in Murray. The Gardner Women’s Center houses Labor and Delivery, two floors of Maternal Newborn/Antepartum rooms, provider offices and the Mammography & Breast Care Services.
Labor and Delivery reported over 500 births by the end of Novermber, 2007! By six months they are reporting over 3,000 births. At least 14 CNMs have privileges at Intermountain Medical Center. They report it has been an exciting, but at times stressful transition to the new hospital which encompasses practices previously based at Cottonwood Hospital (now closed) and practices transferred from LDS Hospital. All look forward to settling in to the new setting and assisting many families as they welcome new additions.
